Senate Nomination and Election

In 2018, Ahmad was nominated by the Pakistan Muslim League (N) (PML-N) as its candidate for the Pakistani Senate election. However, a ruling by the Supreme Court of Pakistan led the Election Commission of Pakistan to declare all PML-N candidates for the Senate election as independent.

Despite this setback, Ahmad was successfully elected to the Senate of Pakistan as an independent candidate on a general seat from Punjab. He was backed in the election by PML-N and, after winning, he joined the treasury benches led by PML-N.
